2010 Deaf Awareness Week Celebration
Posted on November 15, 2010 In 1991, Proclamation 829 declaring the second week of November as Deaf Awareness Week was enacted by her Excellency Former Late President Corazon C. Aquino to enhance significant public awareness on the prevention, early detection and intervention, habilitation and education of the hearing impaired. |

Through the initiative of the Metro Manila Federation Agencies for the Deaf (MMFAD), Deaf Awareness Week (DAW) has been a landmark event celebrating diversity in the communication abilities of individual with communication barriers. |

This year’s DAW Celebration was chaired by Parent Council for the Welfare of the Hearing Impaired Children, Inc. (PCWHIC) with the theme, “Be a part…not apart”. |

“Deaf...on Beats” is a combination of theatrical contemporary movements that tells the love of country, heroic honor, conflict of society of love and family. “Deaf...on Beats” tells the life of the deaf through theatrical drama participated in by their parents, teachers and deaf themselves with different communication exposure; sign language and listen and talk. “Deaf...on Beats” is directed and choreographed by Myra Medrana, DTP professional deaf artist and assisted by Alden de los Reyes former GMA Choreographer. “Deaf...on Beats” was organized by VSA International Organization on Arts & Disability & Inclusive Arts Networking in cooperation with SM Foundation. |
